Born in Varberg in 1974 the sea has always been close to me. I was learned how to use my mask and flippers before I even had learned to swim! Everything under the surface of the sea seamed so much more interesting to me than the ordinary "above surface" attractions.
I tock my first diving certificate in 1992 and started to explore the sea even further. I was on several occasions out in Southeast Asia and traveling around for a couple of months returning home to save money for my next travel. Once you taste travel you want more! Of course I also did more diving in this tropical part of the world and of course I loved it. I moved from Varberg in 1996 to Lund in the southern part of Sweden, to start my studies to become a teacher.
More diving led to more advanced certifications and seven years from that I took my first breath underwater, in 1999 i became a PADI instructor. Starting to work in a dive school in Sweden right away. Soon after that, in the year 2000 I bought my first underwater camera. A MMX II from Sea&Sea. This camera was at the time perfect for me to begin with. You could attach different macro and wide angle lenses to it and it had a YS60 strobe and a decent 35 mm lens. It was also the least expensive, still OK camera. I used it for three years than i bought my first SLR camera a Nikon F80 with a Sea&Sea housing and strobes
I went on traveling, now also with my camera. One good thing by being instructor is that you can always "work your way to the dive", do some work then dive for free or earn some money to spend on some more interesting diving. Me and my wife (who also is my dive partner and model) did some instructor work in Thailand in 2001 on Koh Tao, and in 2003 on Phi-Phi Island.
Now I work as a teacher in Lund and spend all my spare time in the water with my camera and me and my wife try to travel as much that as we can. I enjoy just being in the water where ever that may be but here I list some of my personal favorites. In nordic water: Norway for the fantastic fiords, the Swedish west coast also have some really nice diving and not that far away. I often find the green nordic waters to be just as fascinating as the warm blue tropical seas
In tropical water I just love Southeast Asia. Indonesia probably being the absolute favorite so far (Manado, Bali and Lombok). But also Thailand has some really nice diving around the Similans and of course Richelieu Rock and the fantastic Hin Muang and Hin Daeng. The Philippines also has it´s share of underwater juvels and so far i visited Bohol, Cebu and Puerto Galera very nice diving indeed! Australia who is very well know for the barrier reef also has got some interesting diving but in my opinion the best diving is to be found far away from the Barrier reef, the Coral Sea 200 km from the coast is a truly fascinating dive experience with limitless visibility, lots of sharks and man sized soft corals! There are of course many more places, but these are some of my favorites I have visited so far.
The Red Sea is another favorite. Being just five hours away from Sweden. I have been there five times and always in the southern part of Egypt. Sometimes on a liveaboard otherwise on a dive camp in Marsa Alam or Wadi Lahami.
There is of course a lot of dream destinations out there to be visited and I hope to see as many as I can!
